Mission
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 (NIV)
At Church of the Good Shepherd we view mission as the work of God into which we are invited to participate. Believing Jesus showed us how to love God and neighbor, we invite others to join us in following him in relational ministry that promotes agency and restores dignity to our neighbors.
Clothing Closet
We believe in the inherent dignity of each human being created in the image of God. Good Shepherd dignifies our neighbors by offering free men’s and women’s casual and career clothing to the community. Our clothing closet is open every Saturday from 10am-1pm. For more information, email our Missions team.
Care Portal
We believe that children are full participants in and, based on the words and actions of Jesus, hold a special place in the kingdom of God. We make them a priority in worship, community life, and missions. CarePortal connects us to a network of area churches to meet the child-centered needs of parenting families. Serving children and their families across faith, racial, and social barriers with access to the immigrant community.
Abundant Life Ministries
Knowing that God desires the flourishing of his good creation, we partner with Abundant Life Ministries to come alongside the people of the Prospect community to ensure they have the tools to develop their agency and discover their path to flourishing. Abundant Life Ministries builds relationships and communities through spiritual development, academic support, and economic empowerment.
Love INC
God lives and moves in the world through his people. Love INC connects area churches into a web of support for the greater Charlottesville community. Being a Love INC network church gives a broader reach and a larger pool of resources to each individual and church.
PACEM
What good is it if we send the unhoused away telling them to be warm and well-fed (James 2:16)? Good Shepherd works with PACEM to meet those physical needs and provide shelter, food, and community to our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
IMPACT
Reflecting the kingdom of God in our community demands attention to justice. IMPACT brings people together across faith groups to address local community problems at their source seeking to build relationships across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic lines.
New City Counseling
We partner with New City Counseling believing flourishing means attending to body, mind, and spirit. The counseling provided at New City is one important way to engage the struggles of the past in a constructive way that brings healing and hope.
