Advent, which means “coming” or “arrival,” is a season of expectant waiting and longing. In Advent, we recognize that we live in the “in between” — between the two comings of Jesus Christ. We remember the Incarnation, when God became flesh in Jesus Christ and dwelt among us, and we also look ahead to the day when Jesus Christ will come again, to judge and restore all things in heaven and earth. 

The Christmas season celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. During Christmas, we celebrate that God is with us today, now, and forever. The entire season rejoices in the Incarnation, the truth that the Son of God became man. During the Christmas season, we hear the account of the birth of Jesus in the Gospels and we hear Jesus called by the name Emmanuel, which means “God with Us.”

* We expect a high turnout for our 4 & 6pm services. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to give yourself plenty of time to park, walk, and get settled. Street parking will be limited. Plan to use the parking lots on Garrett St. On Christmas Eve the Downtown Family Health Parking lot off of Garrett St is available for us to use. If parking at Downtown Family, parking is not allowed in the row of spaces adjacent to the building. The 10:00 pm service will have a smaller crowd with an opportunity for a deeper quiet, which will be nice in that inflection between the ‘preparation of Advent’ and the ‘celebration of Christmas Day.’
